Olive Harvest Events in Wine Country
Gathering in the Grove harvest
Grapes aren't the only crop being harvested in Wine Country. Many wineries also produce olive oil from estate-grown olives. Harvest can begin as early as October and typically runs through the winter, sometimes extending into the new year. If you're traveling to Napa or Sonoma or if you're living in the region, you can take part in harvest celebrations taking place in October and November. Best of all, you may be able to taste or take home some fresh olive oil. Because when it comes to olive oil, unlike some wine, fresher is better.
If you grow olives, several mills are offering community milling days when you can bring your olives. Getting olives milled quickly after harvest is of the utmost importance.

Gathering in the Grove olive oil
For the second year, Auberge du Soleil will host a Gathering in the Grove, in its 33 acres of heritage olive trees. Guests can learn about olive cultivation, harvesting, and oil production while tasting an array of varietals and discovering their unique flavor profiles.
The Restaurant will feature “Olives Six Ways” tasting menu paired with wines, and The Bar will offer olive-inspired small plates and cocktails such as the Olive Grove Martini and La Poire Olive. The Gathering in the Grove offers a unique opportunity to savor the season while connecting Napa Valley’s setting with Mediterranean heritage.
Book ahead at the Restaurant or Bar or contact the concierge at Auberge du Soleil to participate.
McEvoy Olio Nuovo
McEvoy Ranch President Samantha Dorsey will lead an olio nuovo experience. The day starts with the harvesting of fresh olives directly from the orchard, then you'll see how the olives are processed, milled, and then you'll get a chance to taste the new oil, just moments after it's been extracted. The event ends with lunch featuring, of course, dishes using olio nuovo as well as their small lot wines.
