10 Great Olive Oil Subscriptions
The best olive oil is fresh olive oil. Once a bottle is open, it begins to oxidize and should always be used as quickly as possible, ideally within 3-6 months. One way to stay well-stocked is with an olive oil subscription. Olive oil subscriptions also make a great gift for the olive oil lover in your life. Subscriptions are the gift that keeps on giving, and there are plenty to choose from in a variety of prices and formats. In fact, subscriptions often save you money. Just be sure you're clear on the harvest dates and when the freshest oil will be shipped out. Here are 10 olive oil producers offering subscriptions.
Branche olive oils
Branche sources olives from a single orchard in southern Spain, harvesting in November, then processed in small batches and stored in stainless steel, nitrogen-cooled tanks at their farm in Andalucia. They keep things simple with only three limited-production bottlings, each packaged in matte-colored vessels. The herbaceous Branche No.1 is a blend of Picual, Arbequina, and Hojiblanca olives, while the delicate No. 2 is made from 100% Arbequina olives. The new No 3., released late November 2024, has a peppery flavor profile and packaged in a bold, deep red bottle. The original set is offered online for $77 (or $40 each), and you can subscribe to have the set sent every one, two or three months for $70 each mailing.
California Olive Ranch olive oil
California Olive Ranch could perhaps be the most recognizable brand on this list, their familiar square bottles appearing on grocery shelves near and far. While not all of their oils are solely from California, their standards are thoroughly displayed online and on their bottles, with numerous certification seals and very accessible pricing. Their subscription plan saves even more money with 15 percent off plus free shipping on orders over $85. You can choose from an assortment of many products to subscribe to, including the two-liter 100-percent California Bag-in-a-Box ($46.74), shipped every one or two months. You can update or cancel anytime.
Corto olive oil in box and bottle
Another brand that offers great bulk sizing and affordable pricing is California-based Corto. Working with olive growers around the state, all of their oils come with the harvest date as well as the best-by date printed on them, and they recommend that customers use their three-liter “FlavorLock™” Box within one year of opening, and their 500ml bottle within two months of opening, yet another reminder that olive oil is a fresh product. Club Corto is the company’s subscription offering, and there are two ways to participate. The first is their Classic Collection ($232/year), two deliveries of two 500ml bottles and one three-liter box. The Pantry Collection ($222/year) ships one three-liter box, three times a year. Both options include exclusive perks, such as a free limited-edition olive oils, virtual olive oil tasting experiences and access to chef-led cooking classes.
Enzo Olive Oil range
The Ricchiuti’s operate a fourth-generation family farm in California’s San Joaquin Valley. They produce estate-grown, certified organic olive oils, plus a variety of other products under the Enzo Olive Oil Company brand, all of which are also sold at their retail shop in Clovis. The new Subscribe & Save ($17.95-$99.95) program launched in May of 2024 and is a great way to maximize any online orders of Enzo products, including their high quality oils with harvest dates always listed on the bottle or tin. Once you sign up, a five percent savings is applied to every order and you can select your frequency, either every one or two months (skip or cancel at any time).
Fat Gold olive oils
Kathryn Tomajan is pretty serious about olive oil transparency. In fact, she launched her company after writing her master’s thesis on New World olive oil, going on to consult for companies (including Enzo) about supply chains and sourcing. But the company also makes incredible olive oil for the Fat Gold brand, and a subscription is an excellent way to explore it. The regular annual plan ($179) allots four 500 ml tins of California virgin olive oil, milled specifically for subscribers, and rolls over on an ongoing basis so you don’t have to worry about renewing (although you can cancel anytime). If you opt to sign up for a gift subscription for someone else, the quarterly shipments go on for one year only and end automatically. Instead of labels, the tins come with artistic refrigerator magnets, as well as a copy of the informative Fat Gold Zine. Because, as they explain, “An annual subscription to Fat Gold is, first and foremost, a supply of high-quality extra virgin olive oil. But it’s also an education, practical and unpretentious. We want to help you become an olive oil expert over time.” Amen to that!
Flamingo Estate olive oil
Flamingo Estate has been working with the same regenerative farm for its olive oil from the very beginning, harvested from 150-year old trees. The company, with gorgeous branding and packaging, is in fact an estate in the Los Angeles hills. The single-origin olive oil is hand-harvested and cold pressed immediately to preserve critical freshness and polyphenol content (385 mg/kg). Founder Richard Christiansen, who also calls Flamingo Estate home, uses the Heritage Extra Virgin Olive Oil every day. They offer a subscription program for many of the beautiful Estate products (soap, candles, pantry items, etc.) as well as the Heritage ($43.20 every four, six or eight weeks) and Garlic olive oils. The harvest date for all of their oils are listed on each product page online.
Kosterina everyday tin and bottle
When you grow up with a bottle of fresh, local koroneiki olive oil on the table at every meal, it is safe to say you would be disappointed with mass-market Greek olive oil available in most U.S. grocery stores. This experience is exactly what compelled Katina Mountanos to launch the brand that she and her husband Kostas started in 2020 with the goal of bringing the freshest, highest quality and polyphenol-containing oil to the states. Mountanos undertook an olive oil sommelier certification course and identifies the best oils - harvested early and milled properly - to source for the brand from southern Greece. Their new subscription extra virgin starter set ($90), notably packaged in striking white and blue bottles, includes the kosterina Original EVOO (their most premium oil, made from 12 pounds of olives per bottle, containing the highest polyphenol content, with over 500 mg/kg) and Organic Everyday EVOO (~350 mg/kg polyphenol content). This one has a high smoke point of 425°F or higher, which the company likes to say is proof that you can and should always cook with EVOO, never seed oils. The two bottles are shipped every one, two or three months (skip or cancel anytime). The full set comes as your first order, followed by their Refill Duo (500ml tins) at your selected frequency. Harvest dates are listed on their packaging, all opaque glass or tins, and they only sell the latest harvest. All their oil is also early-harvest, equating in high polyphenol content, cold-pressed and 100 percent single varietal koroneiki olives.
McEvoy Olive Oil Lineup courtesy of McEvoy Ranch
McEvoy Ranch has been producing award-winning olive oil for over three decades on its 550-acre property in Petaluma, California. The women-founded and operated, certified CCOF Organic company is dedicated to sustainability, and in more recent years, they have added olive oil-based body and skincare products to their line as well. Instead of a typical subscription program, McEvoy has their Social Club, a membership plan that offers multiple tiers of curated products packed up for members three times a year. A one-year commitment is part of the terms, and no substitutions are available. Choose The Orchard, a culinary focused selection of oils, vinegars, mustard and chocolate for $165 or The Estate which also includes wine for $220. Their assortment of olive oils, packaged in thick, dark glass stopper bottles, range from the freshest, post-harvest Olio Nuovo to flavors like the very popular Herbs de Provence. Harvest dates and certifications are all posted on the back of the bottles. Membership also includes various discounts to experiences at the estate.
Olive Truck olive oils
We know that olive oil is at its best when it is pressed immediately after harvest. This is the vision of Olive Truck, born from the need for olive mills to be closer to where olives are grown. In 2019, the brand launched a revolutionary mobile facility that drives right into the olive orchards and cold-presses the fruit within moments after harvest, capturing peak freshness, flavor, and polyphenols. Owner Sam Bayraktar calls this a “tree-to-bottle” approach, and it’s a game changer. We can taste the result in the four bottle California subscription offer ($128.40), every three, six or once yearly shipments (skip or cancel anytime). As a subscriber, you will always be getting extra virgin oils at ideal freshness, with harvest dates and origin marked on each bottle, plus 10-20 percent off discounts on all products as well as free shipping (for orders over $100).
Wonder Valley olive oil
Wonder Valley started in 2014, a company based on promoting the benefits of high quality olive oil, sourced from trees in Northern California to this day. They sell olive oil, but also a bevy of body products and goods, offering the concept that “great olive oil has the power to elevate everyday life and we believe in its holistic power to support both internal health and external beauty.” The Oil Club ($200) is four shipments of their 375 ml bottle of California extra virgin olive oil plus a surprise gift each time. You also get a 20-percent discount sitewide, as well as access to new releases and special discounts. You can also subscribe to just the olive oil ($34.20) for shipment every one, two or three months. Intention on reusable vessels, no plastic and pure ingredients is a core part of the Wonder Valley ethos.
